Every few weeks or so, I’ll be sharing a room of my house along with my plans for sprucing it up a bit. The execution will be ongoing beyond a few weeks, I’m sure; decorating seems to have no end point. Next up: our family room.
I’ve been working on our living room for the last month or so, and I’m almost finished with it, but I’m also going to get started on our family room. Because I swapped the area rugs between the two rooms, the family room revision sort of started itself.
Like the living room, I think this room is starting out maybe 75 percent done, but that missing 25 percent is just so important. The room is lacking in color and personality. I like most of the furniture, but overall the room is kinda boring. There’s some artwork, but I think there could be a additional pieces.
We spend so much time in here, I just want it to be cozy, comfortable and put-together. At least more than it is now.
Here’s my loose plan for how I’m going to attack this room:
Short term plans
-
Declutter
-
Replace couch (ordered!)
-
Change out a lamp shade
-
Make new throw pillows
-
Add more artwork
-
Add accessories
-
Add color!
-
Touch up the ceiling paint
-
Fix creeping area rug
-
Solve the magazine clutter problem
Longer term plans
-
Add wall shelves for DVDs
-
Add a coffee table (This one’s long-long term. Right now I want to leave the main floorspace open.)
