Over the weekend, we planted some purple fountain grasses in our giant patch of bare dirt. I originally bought them with the intention of putting them along the back fence, but had a re-examination of my priorities. Obviously, my mud patch needed more attention.
So we planted them along the chain link instead. They look tiny now, but they are supposed to grow 4.5 feet tall/wide. Hopefully they will camouflage the fence some. I was careful to select plants labeled as “drought tolerant.” That gives me hope they will survive, despite my neglect.
I also planted some low juniper groundcover, but I’m a little scared of how they might turn out. The tag says they grow up to eight feet wide! But I guess sometimes I just have to experiment. Put things in the ground, see how they grow. If they don’t work, I can change them out later.
