Last week, I showed you our new couch, but I wanted to do an update about the family room in general. I’ve crossed off several items on my to-do list, but I think I still need to add some more artwork to make the space complete.
I made several new pillows for the couch (more details in another post soon) and swapped out the black lampshade for something lighter.
I loved the black shade, but honestly, it wasn’t very practical. It blocked a lot of light. I ran across this natural linen-like shade at Target. It was $25 (not really any great bargain), but I fell in love with it the moment I saw it. The banding is just perfect.

I also swapped out the ugly uplight for the floor lamp that used to be in the living room. This area still looks a bit jumbled, but I’m not sure it’s going to get any better until we build some built ins. I’d be happy to have the DVDs in hidden storage, but they are important to Dan and he gives me pretty much complete creative control in the rest of the house. So I don’t fight him on it.
