Last week I showed you this octagonal end table I found at an antique mall. It was a handmade piece crafted from plywood; it had some chipped areas and needed some attention.
The woodgrain was a little much, but there’s no guilt in painting over plywood.
I loved the hardware, so I knew a paint job would go a long way to save this unique little piece.
After fixing a few of the chips with some wood fill and sanding them smooth, I primed with a stainblocking primer. The stainblocker element might not have been necessary since I was going to paint it a dark color anyway, but the stain did bleed through the primer.
I painted the inside an appley green and the outside black. I kind of wanted to do navy instead of the black, but I didn’t want to buy any new paint, so I forced myself to use what I had in the house.
I had to paint around the hinges and pulls; it seems as they had been glued in place. Annoying. It would have gone quicker if I could have removed them, but it worked out in the end. After a quick coat of polyurethane (two for the top), the table was done and off to my brother’s new house.
Drop by tomorrow for another octagonal makeover!

Black and brass. Love it! I also love the pop of green on the inside. Well done.
