The people who lived in our house before us put in some bushes and apparently, they did not know/care about how big they were expected to get. See below.
Before
Not only did I hate how the bushes were all squished with no space to grow, but the holly/ boxwood/ holly/ boxwood arrangement looked messy.
It looked even worse before spring had sprung.
My dad took out the hollies with a saw, which was like a five minute project. I hope there’s no such thing as plant karma, because there was nothing really wrong with them. Once the hollies were out, the boxwoods (not to mention the porch) had room to breathe.
After
I’m no Edward Scissorhands, but I think I did an OK job trimming them. Hopefully the one on the left will expand a bit now that it’s no longer being choked.
Our house looks so much more approachable now! Onto project #2!
Before
We have these small flowerbeds down by the street and this is what they looked like coming back from winter. Yikes!
An hour later, and the weeds were clear. I had originally thought I was going to take out all of the ugly chunky bricks, but after yanking all the weeds, I got lazy and changed my mind.
Instead of removing the bricks, I covered them as much as I could with the mulch.
It doesn’t look like much now, but if the begonias make it to fall (like I’m hoping) they should fill in.
